But do you have a picture of it?

Probably not.

I think its something that will be cool to look at in the years to come.

a little note...

My whole goal in this website was that I didn't want any of you to have to worry about deadlines, or that to have that feeling of "I need to be caught up" or "I'm so behind".

I didn't want it to be a contest...so thats why I opted against sponsors or picking winners.

Sometimes I feel guilty (its one of my more uncool attributes) that I don't have enough going on here. Overlooked went from 360+ members all the way to 26 last month. But I refuse to give less because of those numbers. The emails you all have sent me - tell me it is worth it. Even if you don't upload your picture or your layout - i know that you all are still doing these challenges. I don't do this for praise, for financial gain, or notoriety. I do this because I want to.

Hopefully you are inspired...hopefully you take the time to snap, jot, and scrap some of these subjects.

Thank you for stopping by.

What do you do while you watch TV? Are you very focused on the show? Or are you a multi-tasker? Do you fold laundry, pay bills, surf the Internet, eat dinner, drink a cup of coffee, snuggle with your loved one(s), do your homework, or scrapbook?

2. Are you pretty laid back and chill - or are you always having to "shhhh" people?
3. Write out what is currently on your DVR/TiVo List...you could even do shortcuts. (Example)
Mine would go something like this:

The Office (13)
LOST (11)
SNL (6)
Power Rangers Jungle Fury (5)

4. Jot down a little note or two about your favorite "TV watching" beverage or snack.

6. Parents- how many times a day do you have to put in that ONE movie for your child that they love so much? How long have they loved it? Write down a few movies that they have gone through this phase with.

7. What about a show that you CANNOT believe that you actually watch. Whether its because its not your style, or its "cheesy"...

8. Call your movie store or look up online and jot some journaling down about the last 5 movies you rented. Give a review of each one, or rank them 1-5.

9. Who is your TV crush? Write down why....(dibs on Patrick Dempsey)

10. Simply write about your all time favorite TV show. (whether still on air or not)

11. Simply write about your all time favorite movie.

12. I could draft a formal apology and explain why I am a couple of weeks late on getting the current subject to you...

I could even say I agree with just how freaking annoying it is when you are anticipating something that isn't happening.

But just know that I love this blog - I love coming up with the challenges, I love seeing the photos...its everything I hoped it would be and more.

But sometimes things that I find fun and do as a side project MUST take a backseat to the needs of my family or myself.

I have a feeling that you all completely understand where I'm coming from.

With that being said...let's move on.

So we all watch TV.

some of us watch a little. some of us watch too much.

i have to admit that getting satelite with DVR is officially one of my most appreciated luxuries.

No more flipping through channels, no more mindless TV, no more missing good quality shows (Like Rock of Love II)

I can actually NOT feel guilty about watching TV...because I tuck the kids into bed, make some hot tea, fold laundry...and actually pick between programs that i WANT to watch.

So here it is----->Subject IV.

Take a picture, or find a way to document the shows you are completely enjoying RIGHT NOW.

Because things change. Your interest, writer's strikes, shows ending, highly anticipated shows beginning.

(I have a confession...I gave up Dr. Phil on January 1st...and I used to love me some Dr. Phil)

Alternative:

I know that not everyone watches TV, likes TV, has a DVR/TiVo option. So there is a 2nd option for this subject. Go to your DVD player - open it up - and take a picture of the DVD that is currently in there. This will be a great slice of life - showing you what you are currently watching and even the beginnings of a favorite movie mini album - or a page with your favorite movie quotes, or love for an actor or an actress.

Consider these ideas...

*A snapshot of what you currently have saved on your TiVO or DVR. The FRIDGE. The FRIGIDAIRE. The ICEBOX.

Whatever you call it, you have one.

I was inspired to make this our new subject while putting groceries away. I like the way things look when they are all in their place, when the drawers are filled with fruits and veggies - when there is juice, water, diet cokes in their spot. Nice and stocked. Surely I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I also want to look back and remember things that were constants. Things that were ALWAYS in my fridge. Things that my family consumed on the daily. Things I bought the generic brand of, things I didn't mind spending the extra money on. The ingredients always on hand for the meals I made often.

Instead of the inside of your fridge or freezer. You could also take a picture of whats ON your fridge. The alphabet magnets, the to-do lists, the pictures, the fruit stickers, the forms you need to sign, the coupons you've clipped. I don't want to change the blog and the groups every couple of weeks - and I also have come to the realization that I will never, ever be able to make everyone happy. So let's try to come up with something...and get back to the photos, the writing, and the creating.

So...here is the dealio. I have created a poll to the left. Please vote...and vote only once. I will NOT have a new Overlooked up in the morning. This week will give everyone the opportunity to vote - Give me a chance to create a widget - And to take care of a sick husband and two sick boys. (The girls - Marley Jane and myself are going strong)

Also at the bottom left there is a spot to enter your email to be notified of Overlooked blog updates. (also an overlooker request) I aim to please. :o)

Have a good week.
awAshley Wrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07611998364340945294noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6012349106523876221.post-88212338788807405732008-02-11T14:56:00.000-05:002008-02-12T15:18:42.317-05:00Make It - Subject Two - Collections

So this is Part III - which concludes the three part challenge of Subject Two - Collections.

If you are just joining us, this is the week that the picture you took for Part I and your thoughts from Part II are combined in some way. Whether its a traditional scrapbook page, a daily addition to your own personal journal , a blog entry with the two, a mini album, a daily card, or something for your home.

Try to create something that joins the two together.

Remember - no time limits - no deadlines - no requirements...If you ever come to Overlooked and just aren't "feeling" the subject - you just aren't inspired DON'T DO IT. Get in where you fit in...have fun. Do it because you want to do it...

I have created a Flickr Group for Part III. I have been asked to create a group for each individual Subject...Don't be mad at me - but I'm just going to stick to the one group for now.

Overlooked - Make It - All Subjects

This is also a CHOICE that you have. Please feel free to ONLY upload your project (if you wish) to the online gallery of your choosing and if you want to share your Part III love - then leave a link to the what you have created and post it in the comments section of this entry. Don't feel like you have to post it here as well as the place you normally upload layouts.

A couple of simple suggestions for your projects.

Going back to the journaling idea - how about writing a list of each item in your collection along with dates, or comments about it.

What about using arrows cut out of different patterened papers and pointing to different items in the collection and jotting a couple of thoughts about them.

Use something from your collection on your page. If you save postcards - use one! If you collect stamps - add one! If you save patches - attach one! It does not mean you can't take your subject out of its element and be creative with the photograph.

Let me explain by giving an example. I say take a picture of your collections. You adore big chunky beaded necklaces, but you only have one. To go out and buy three more and then take a picture of this would not be real but also unfair to all 22 of those purses you have. But to take all of your Harry Potter books off the shelf and to lay them out or stack them neatly would be OK. Does this make sense?

There will be times where the subject is "as is" meaning you have to be true to how it is at that very second - but there are times where you need to get creative with the photo. I really hope that comes across as understandable and not hypocritical.

So there it is...there is Subject Two. Collections. Compilations. Accumulation. Whether deliberately or not.

Is it earrings, purses, books by a certain author, fonts, makeup, lotions, owls, expensive china, initials, paintings by a certain artist, journals, troll dolls, Godzilla toys, hot wheels, ticket stubs, letters, or postcards.

So I ask you, what do you collect? Go snap it...and post it here.

Overlooked - Subject Two - Collections

aw
Ashley Wrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07611998364340945294noreply@blogger.com31tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6012349106523876221.post-52289007559871264272008-01-27T10:48:00.000-05:002008-01-28T11:06:10.364-05:00A sharpie + A plain mug = uniqueness.So this is it.
My simple yet fun idea for making a simple mug fun and personal.
Take a sharpie in the color of your choice - and simply write your word (ala Ali) or your mantra.
keep it simple.
keep it neat.
make it yours.
fun right?
Elise's mug inspired this idea.
SO freaking simple - yet to me it really does speak volumes.
And who knows...it might be your *new* favorite mug.
And if you make one - and feel like it, i would LOVE to see all the words that you all live by. Whether it be a traditional scrapbook page, a daily addition to your own personal journal , a blog entry with the two, a mini album, a daily card, or something for your house. Try to create something that joins the two together.

There are no time restraints, and there is no pressure. I'm not for that. Also, you won't upload your final creation into the Overlooked Flickr Group. (The Group is solely for Part I)

Just upload your project (if you wish) to the online gallery of your choosing and if you want to share your Part III love - then leave a link to the what you have created and post it in the comments section of this entry.

My creative challenge to you is:
Make a Coffee Ring directly ON your page.
(again...just a suggestion -its completely optional)

Somehow, someway make a coffee ring directly onto your project.

I will be back later this week with my layout, a pretty simple (but rad) idea, and a little giveaway.

Check these fun things out...

Recycled Gift Cards
Embroidered Coffee Sleeves

ps.
umm do i see 334 members?!
holy guacamole.

awAshley Wrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07611998364340945294noreply@blogger.com65tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6012349106523876221.post-20423037771794733292008-01-14T11:15:00.000-05:002008-01-14T08:19:54.346-05:00Jot It - Subject One - Coffee Mug*Before you start reading the Jot It suggestions I just want to take the time to get emotional with you all. I CANNOT believe the response to Overlooked. I am floored. I am so excited, honored, and amazed that you all are going to accompany me with this. I wanted to create a spot, a place that I myself would be inspired at. I was hoping with fingers crossed that a few people would join me. But in no way did I think that number would climb to 256. 256 Overlookers.WOW. Coffee mugs from all around the world. Who would have thought it. So all I can tell you is thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Let's continue shall we?

Direction - Starting Points - Suggestions - Springboards - Ideas

HISTORY
Jot down the history of your favorite mug.
Where did you get it?
Do you even remember?
Did you buy it because it was just SO rad that you had to have it?
Did it used to be someone else's, and you somehow acquired it?
How long have you had this favorite mug of yours?
Could another one ever take its place?
Or is this a replacement for your favorite one that has since been lost or broken?

MORNING ROUTINE
How does Coffee play into your morning routine?
Are you the "Instant Human Just Add Coffee" type?
Do you make coffee first thing as you stumble into the kitchen?
Are you capable of doing ANYTHING before that first mug full?
What do you do while you have that first mug? Do you check your email, read the newspaper, read the book of the moment, surf the Internet? Go about your morning chores?
What time do you get up and what time is the coffee maker started? Compare the times.
Who makes the coffee? You? Your partner? Is it waiting for you when you get up?
Do you have the alarm set on it - to brew at a particular time every morning?
Does your weekend routine change your coffee habit?

CONSUMPTION
How many cups a day?
Is it just that initial mug to get you going?
Do you drink it all throughout the day?
Do you drink it at night?
Do you only drink it when you meet with friends at Starbucks?
What happens if you don't drink the norm?

PREFERENCE
Black?
Sugar? Splenda? Equal? Sweet N Low? - If so, how many?
What kind of creamer? The liquid or the powder?
Do you like the original flavor or are you constantly trying and experimenting w/new flavors every time your out?
How much creamer?
Would you like a little coffee to go with that cream?
Regular or Decaf?
Folgers or Starbucks?
Are you a coffee snob?
Do you like it super dee duper hot? Warm? Iced?

TALK TO ME LIKE I'M A BARISTA.
Welcome to ___________ what can I make for you this morning?
Pretend that you are placing your order for your typical morning coffee.
What would you order?
Are you overly confident?
Does it take you forever to finally decide?
Are you one of those customers that intimidates me when I'm at Starbucks waiting behind you?
The kind that goes something like this: "Um yes, Let me get a Tall Chai with NO water added - at a temperature of 185 - with a dash of soymilk." I don't even know enough to imitate it. I'm not making fun...I'm simply in awe. Last time I was there I picked up one of those "How to order at Starbucks booklets, maybe that will help.

So for the next week - jot down what you would like to say in regards to your mug. Your coffee routine. You DO NOT share this...as it will be combined with your picture for a scrapbook page or a journal entry.

My ideas are simply that. Just suggestions. Just some starters to get that incredible mind of yours going - get the wheels turning.

On my second mug of the morning,
awAshley Wrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07611998364340945294noreply@blogger.com36tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6012349106523876221.post-82274888554272709232008-01-06T14:10:00.000-05:002008-01-07T08:23:08.269-05:00Snap It - Subject One - Coffee Mug

Sure.
You might have tons of them in the cabinet.

And yes, you might use them all at one time or another.
But there is always that ONE that you prefer.

That one you will search in the dishwasher for as opposed to simply grabbing one off the shelf.

That one that is just a wee bit more popular than the others.

Whether its because it has sentimental value, because of who gave it to you or its just more visually appealing to you, it could be the most practical of the bunch, it could be your oldest one. They are so obvious that you don't even think twice about them, much less take a picture of them and scrapbook them. They deserve a page protector too!

I also am intrigued by how fast things change. How when you take a slice of life, and look back at it, things can be so very different. Like Ferris Bueller says: Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. I want to preserve those things. They reflect who I was, what I was doing, what was going on during that particular time in my life.

So to start our journey...this is how it goes.

On January 7th, I will post Subject One.
You will have a week to SNAP a picture of Subject One, and post it here.

On January 14th, I will post the journaling ideas, prompts, suggestions for you to JOT down regarding Subject One.

On January 21st, I would love to see the layouts created from the combination of your picture and your writing.

Throughout the month, I will have different inspirational things happening. Whether its a picture, a song, an idea, a recipe, a joke. So always feel free to give the blog a click and see if anything is going on or anything new is here.

I chose to make this an every three week challenge broken into an every week item. There are so many amazing challenges going on, not to mention children, husbands, wives, jobs, laundry, cooking, excercising, email, dishes, and PTA.

There are no winners, no losers here at Overlooked. I will however of course play games and give out goodies from time to time to keep it fun and to keep you on your toes. But I WILL NOT be picking favorites. I don't have the heart to do that, and I know how it feels to work hard and feel inadequate. So I will take no part in it!

Call me Stuart Smalley, but we are all good enough, smart enough, and creative enough.

So leave me a note and say Hi, and let me know that you are excited and interested and eager to get your "overlooked" on.....

Until January 7th...
awAshley Wrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07611998364340945294noreply@blogger.com149
